Each of the three courses offered by our Puppy Prep School will have a maximum of five puppies per course. This will ensure that each puppy will receive one-on-one attention and instruction. Each course runs for six weeks, and is offered at three participating locations.
Cost: $35/week or $180 if you pay in full at the time of the first class (equivalent of $30/week).
Course 101 (10 weeks-5 months)
The early stages of a puppy’s life are the most crucial for his or her socialization. If your dog is not properly socialized between the ages of 8 weeks and 5 months, it will greatly hinder your dog from developing into a social and confident adult. As a result, we will integrate socialization into this structured and practical course.
The curriculum for Puppy Prep Course 101 includes:
· Teaching your dog proper leash walking, respectful greeting manners, and a general
propensity to look to you for guidance
· Introducing your dog to unfamiliar environmental stimuli, such as thunder, traffic, and
· Preparing your dog to feel comfortable being groomed, bathed, and examined at the vet
· Teaching your dog to have a "soft mouth," also known as bite inhibition
· Giving you the tools to teach your children how to handle your new puppy
· Reviewing the fundamentals of house breaking
Course 102 (5 months-11 months)
This is the perfect course for those who have never had prior puppy training. The curriculum for this course is primarily the same as that for Course 101. However, there will be less emphasis on socialization. We will begin to incorporate a more focused sit-stay and down-stay using creative and challenging distractions implemented by the group.
Course 201 (5 months-11 months)
This course builds on the skills that were developed in Course 101. Your dog will learn to perform all of the fundamental behaviors like sit-stay, come to heel, and heeling on and off leash with a high level of distraction. We will also develop additional communication cues, both verbal and non-verbal, that will facilitate more complete and precise execution of behaviors. It is the carefully designed and incrementally more challenging nature of the training distractions and settings that make this class a must for those interested in working towards having a reliably obedient and well- mannered companion. Pre-requisite: Course 101, or the equivalent.
